Here is a listing of most of the videos captioned by RAMP. There are a few missing, but there’s a good batch here. i’ll add as i complete videos. Please feel free to go to the links to also check out and add other language translations!
Captioning is a great way for more folks to access video & film. As someone who finds it difficult to process some audio communication, it certainly helps me understand things better. It can make it possible for folks to participate, create and contribute in an otherwise pretty alienating & inaccessible event. And while captioning is not the be-all end-all, but just one more piece of the puzzle, i think the bulk of us are looking towards greater inclusivity, wider community nets, empowerment, involvement, liberation, yes? Yes. And every bit helps.
Years ago, a friend turned me on to this website called Universal Subtitles (now called Amara), http://www.amara.org/en/ where you can take pretty well any video and subtitle and caption it in many languages. i’m currently limited to captioning in english, but if you’re able, please caption any of these in additional languages, and then all of the various language translations can be found in one location. One of the really great things about Amara is that you can really easily download the subtitles you create into many types of files, which can then be used to “attach” the subtitles to a video off of Amara.
i’m going to be adding to this post as i caption and tweak my own and other people’s captions, so stay tuned! Most of these vids are captions done by RAMP, but i’m going to start including ones that others have done as well, also going to have a list of projects on the go, and a wishlist of things i’d like to see captioned but that might be too much to take on at the moment. If you’ve got time, add to them! Make your own (that’s one of the great things about the program, you can build on other peoples work), or let me know if there’s something you’d love to see captioned and i’ll see if i can make it happen!

73. Resisting Gender Violence Without Cops or Prisons
– An interview with author Victoria Law
Aside from the piece at 9:40 where she says “…recognizing that it’s not just women who face violence. Um, so they actually started doing trainings for transgender people…” – which to me makes it feel like she’s separating trans women from cis women, separating trans women out of the category of “woman”. Maybe just an unfortunate edit, but this is such a standard thing, the assumption that we’re talking about cis women when we speak about violence against women, that i felt it was necessary to make note) this is a good look into the issues around relying on police to deal with abuse/violence in certain communities.

72. January 4, 2008, Prado Gómez talks about trans men taking responsibility (or not) for fucked up behaviour, and the kinds of communities we want to be creating.
Personally, i’m not cool with what i perceive to be his equating of an identity as “boy” instead of “man” as being somehow the same as a life without responsibility for ones actions etc. Otherwise, this is a great piece.

Geronimo E-KIA, a poem by the 1491s
Accompanying music by A Tribe Called Red.
On May 1st around 3:30pm President Obama received a message from a Navy SEAL saying “Geronimo- E KIA” the code meaning Osama bin Laden is dead. We humbly disagree.Geronimo was a product of his environment. A human. One with flaws. One with enough history that the person charged with defining who he is can shape the narrative any which way he likes. People chase him today, just as they did then. His story, or peoples versions of it, lead us to this point where we are today. But this poem isn’t about Geronimo is it?
